Resources

At our workshops we provide recommendations for resources that parents and young people can access to help keep our young people safe online, and navigate conversations about pornography. Below are some of our favourite resources, including our Device Contracts which you can print off and use at home.

Tools, Resources and Books

  • Tricky Chats - Parenting Course
A New Zealand parenting course with Jo Robertson featuring 17 video lessons on an array of topics including consent, puberty, online safety, play dates, sleepovers, porn, ‘the sex talk’, abuse, stranger danger, media literacy and more. • Filtering System - Safe Surfer
Safe Surfer provides a simple & easy way to stay safe online. Enter ‘time2talk’ in the coupon section to receive a small discount. Their Pro Surfer online service can be reached here.

  • Filtered Internet Service Provider (ISP) - The Good Source
Please mention Tāima Kōrero when you sign up to their service as this helps support our cause.

  • Book - Good Pictures, Bad Pictures by Kristen Jensen
This book is a great guide for talking to your younger ones. This covers what p*rn is and how to recognise it when they see it. These are available from Tāima Kōrero at $22.50 plus postage. Email Brett to order

  • Protect Young Eyes - Social Media, Gaming, Photo & Video Apps Explained for Parents
This site focuses on what apps our young people may be using, including details on what the apps offer and what, as parents, we need to look out for.

  • The Light Project - Resources
A New Zealand website with an excellent collection of resources to help young people and parents, including links, books, professional services and more.

Information, Reports and Statistics

  • NZ Classification Office Report: NZ Youth & P*rn
Produced in 2018, 2000 young people (aged 14-17) throughout Aotearoa were surveyed on their p*rn use. This can be hard to read but interesting to grasp what is happening in Aotearoa, from a teen perspective.

  • NZ Classification Office Report: Growing up with P*rn
This report was released in 2020 with revisions in June 2021. 52 young people around NZ chose to talk at length about p*rn and what they are facing. Great read if you parent teenagers. This report shows that our teens want their parents to talk about p*rn.

  • Tāima Kōrero on Facebook & Instagram
Follow us for the latest stats, upcoming events, new research and tools for parents.

How to Start Conversations

  • Culture Reframed - Parent Programmes
Culture Reframed provides comprehensive parent programmes (for parents of tweens and parents of teens) on preparing yourself to talk with your young person about hypersexualised media and p*rn.

  • Fight the New Drug - Conversation Blueprint
An intuitive step-by-step blueprint on talking to young people about p*rn. Specifically, the final page offers great conversation starters  - grab a couple and learn them.

  • NZ Classification Office: How to Talk with Young People About Pornography
This site covers some great articles and news on what's happening in NZ around p*rn, and introduces some conversations starters and tips around how to approach the conversation.

Resources for Teens

  • In the Know
"Info, help and tips on p*rn and online sexual stuff" for ages 13+. Answers those enquiring and tricky questions from a safe platform.

  • Fight The New Drug
One of the better sites for teenagers, in my opinion. Includes stories, tools and practical steps for teens, especially if they are consuming p*rn.

  • Brain-Heart-World - Documentary
A great watch with your teenagers. The three-part series is youth-based and focuses on how p*rn affects the teen brain, heart and world. Each part is approximately 30 mins long but well worth the time.

Device Contracts

Our Device Contracts are very popular among families who have attended a workshop. Please download our contracts and edit to suit your family as necessary.
